Credential Maintenance

Confused about GBCI’s Credential Maintenance Program (CMP)?

We can help! Read on to see how the U.S. Green Building Council Texas Gulf Coast Chapter is making it easy for you.

If you’re a LEED AP without specialty…

You have three options:

Option 1: Do Nothing!

The LEED AP without specialty credential is held in perpetuity, does not have any CMP requirements or fees, and may be held concurrently with a LEED AP with specialty or LEED Green Associate credential. LEED APs without specialty who choose not to enroll will continue to appear in the LEED Professional Directory and may continue to use the title of LEED AP with no specialty designation afterward.

Option 2: Prescriptive Credential Maintenance
LEED APs can become specialized by completing prescriptive credential maintenance for the first reporting period. Opt in to the CMP by your deadline and you will have a two year reporting period to obtain 30 hours of prescriptive credential maintenance.

Option 3: Testing
LEED APs can also become specialized by passing the specialty exam. Choose to enroll through testing on your My Credentials account, then you have until your deadline to pass the specialty exam of your choice. LEED APs who enroll through testing must pay the applicable application ($100 for the LEED AP exam) and exam fees ($150 for USGBC members, $250 for others for the LEED AP exam).

If you’re a LEED AP with specialty…

You have to maintain your credential by retesting or completing credential maintenance, but don’t stress, we can help with that too!

Once your reporting period begins, you will need to complete 30 hours of continuing education (15 if you’re a Green Associate). The table on the right lays out how the chapter can fulfill your continuing education requirements.
